This Sloka is a continuation of the Sloka 38. The results here are determined through pada of 12th house called up pada.

The Arudha as explained for calculation under sloka 34. Calculate the Arudha of 12th house, this is named as Up Pada.

The following combinations and results can be foretold:

1) If there is a benefic in the Upapada the wife of the native will be very beautiful, she will have good character and will be long lived.

2) If there is a malefic posited in it and that the malefic is debilitated then two wives of the native will be lost

3) If there is a malefic posited in the uppada and that malefic is exalted and is conjunct with benefics or aspected by benefics there will be many wives.

4) If combination as mentioned in 3 above does not have benefic association the native will not marry again.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 38: Results pertaining to spouse / wife

The results of the First wife should be predicted from the 7th house from ascendant (Lagna).

The results about the Second wife should be predicted from the 8th from 7th which is the 2nd house from ascendant.

The results for subsequent wives to be predicted in the manner as mentioned above.

If malefics occupy these houses death / separation from wife can be predicted

if benefics occupy these houses there would be good relationship and long life to wife.

Number of wives should be determined from the Conjunction of Aspect of Jupiter to these houses. Aspects of other benefics on these houses should be considered for character, children and other qualities of the spouse.

Explanation:

8th house from any house denotes the end of that house, thus 8th from 7th i.e. 2nd house from ascendant would signify end of the first relationship and beginning of the second relationship.

Benefic influences and malefic influences on the 7th house should be considered for number of wives and length of relationship.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 37: Yoga for Loss of Children

The following combinations will indicate loss of children:

1) If the Lords of UpPadas of 2nd, 5th and 9th house (bhava) be cojoined with Mercury, Saturn and Mars.

2) Mercury, Saturn and Mars posited in the Rasi and Amsa of the above bhavas

3) Saturn and Jupiter in conjuctoin in any of the above bhavas

In case tenth house and its lord are with or aspected by Saturn there will be an adopted son.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 36: Pada Influence for 2nd, 5th, 9th houses and children

1) As an extension to Sloka 35 above the 2nd, 5th, 9th padas should be carefully examinded for children

2) Jupiter should be examined

3) Conjunction and Aspects of benefics and malefics needs to be examined

If the benefic influences on above are high there will be many children. The sex of the children will be determined

by the planets positioning in signs.

1) Larger number of Planets, Signs are Odd - Male Children

2) Larger number of Plantes, signs are Even - Female Children

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 35: Benefic malefic influences on Pada and Results

Auspicious and inauspicious effects for a House (bhava) based on Pada.

The person will be a king and highly learned if the following combinations exist for the Lagna Pada.

1) If the sign of lagna pada is a benefic sign

2) If it is occupied by benefics

3) Benefics are posited in Kendra and Trikonas with respect to Lagna Pada

There will be malefic effects and inauspicious results if the above are effected by malefics.

Also if malefics occupy the 6th, 8th and 12th places from Lagna Pada the malefic and inauspicious results will be foretold.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 34: Pada Definition

This sloka is an important Jaimini Principle. Learners of Astrology should learn Jaimini Sutram for extensive

coverage of this method of prediction along with different types of Jaimini Dashas.

Step 1: Lord of a bhava is placed in a horoscope, count from the bhava to the Sign having its lord.

Step 2: The number obtained in one above is used to count from the Lord of the Bhava.

Step 3: The Sign which you reach after step 2 is called Pada or Arudha pada of that bhava.

The bhava and the pada or arudha pada of a bhava need to be seen together to find the auspicious or inauspicious

effects.

The names of padas of various houses are:

1) Lagna - Arudha Lagna

2) 2nd House - Kosa Pada

3) 4th House - Vahana or Vidya Pada

4) 5th House - Mantra Pada

5) 7th House - Dara Pada

6) 9th House - Bhagya Pada

7) 10th House - Rajya Pada

8) 12th House - UpaPada

Explanation:

Example Gemini Lagna, Lagna lord in 3rd house which is leo sign.

Since the Lord of Ascendant (lagna) is in 3rd from lagna we have to count 3 signs from the third house(Leo) which

comes to Libra.

Thus the Arudha Lagna is Libra.

Other padas need to be calculated in a similar fashion.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 33: Extension of Yoga 32 and Aspect of Strong Moon on the Yoga

If the planets as mentioned in Sloka 32 Above are having Yoga within 12 degrees of each other and one or more of

these planets is aspected by Strong Moon, the Yogas effects are multiplied.

Effect will be maximum when Moon is in Exaltation and progressively less in own sign, friendly sign, rest of the signs.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 32: Yoga and Strength based on distance between planets

The sloka is an important one and describes when the Good or Bad Yogas will materialize based on the distance between

two planets and their relative movement:

The Good or Bad Yogas of planets will fructify in the following condition:

1. The distance between the planets is within 12 degrees

2. The faster moving planet is behind and moving towards the slower moving planet which is in the front.

The Yoga will be in full strength when the distance between planets is zero and the effect of the Yoga is nullified

if the distance is 12 degrees, the strength will vary from 0% to 100% based on distance of 0 degree and 12 degrees.

the Yoga strength will be based on

In case the Faster Moving planet is ahead of the slower moving planet and they will not cross each other then the Yogas effects are nullified.

Explanation: Refer Tajika Neelkanthi for ithashal yoga and muthashila Yoga.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 31: Dual, Immovable, Movable Signs and Chhadaka Planets

Part I of The Sloka describes the strength of the Signs(Rashis) and corresponding strength of the aspect of planets occupying those Signs (Rashis)

- The order of Signs in descending order of their strength is: Dual Sign(3,6,9,12) Immovable Sign (2,5,8,11) Movable

Sign(1.4,7,10)

- The Planets having Chhadaka or Vedhaka Aspect on a planet i.e. being in 12th or 2nd to a planet will have

progressively higher strength to the aspect based on the point above.

- The Strength of the Houses where these three planets are posited will also be determined by the above rule.

Part II of the sloka talks abut the Decantes of types of Signs and effect of the position of three planets in a

particular Decantes. In the following Decantes / Drekkana the planets are the strongest and the results will be full:

- If the Planets are in First Drekkana in a Movable Sign

- If the Planets are in Second Drekkana in a a Immovable Sign

- If the Planets are in Third Dreskkana in a Dual Sign

In the following Decantes they are medium strong and the results will be medium

- If the Planets are in Second Drekkana in a Movable Sign

- If the Planets are in Third Drekkana in a a Immovable Sign

- If the Planets are in First Drekkana in a Dual Sign

In the following Decantes they will be weak and the results will be less

- If the Planets are in Third Drekkana in a Movable Sign

- If the Planets are in First Drekkana in a a Immovable Sign

- If the Planets are in Second Dreskkana in a Dual Sign

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 30: Raj Yoga

This sloka provides details of Raj Yoga by the time of birth

If a native is born at about 2 ghatis after midnight or after midday. The native born in such a combination will be equal to a king and will conquer all his enemies. Such a native will be learned, wise and religious.

If in the above combination an exalted planet is in the 2nd house and is aspected by another exalted planet this would result in a native who is a multi millionaire.

If in the above combination the planets are in own sign (rasi) and not exalted the person will be happy and a millionaire.

Explanation

1 Ghati =24 minutes thus 2 Ghati = 48 Minutes

This requires further scientific analysis.

Exalted planets in 2nd house of wealth would result in the native amassing wealth.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 29: Raj Yoga

Following combinations result in wealth, name, fame and kinghood.

1) If all the planets are placed in the Kendras from ascendant(1st,4th,7th,10th) and / or placed in Panphara houses (2nd,5th,8th,11th) houses and there are no planets in Apoklima houses.

2) Benefic planets are strong and are not having malefic influence through relationship.

If the strength of the planets is low the status of the individual suffers.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 28: Wealth Yoga

Yoga for Wealth:

If two or more of the following lords are mutually related by Exchange, Aspect or Conjunction and are also strong the native will become a millionaire

1) Lord of 2nd house

2) Lord of 5th House

3) Lord of 9th House

4) Lord of 11th House

If the Lords of 6th, 8th, 12th Houses participate in this combination it will result in the destruction of wealth, the native will fall into a debt trap and get troubled from enemies.

The above results will accrue to the native in the Dasas of the Lords as described above.

Explanation:

The lords of Trikona and wealth related houses if are mutually related will result in Wealth yoga.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 27 : Special Auspicious Yoga for Wealth

Special Yoga for Wealth is defined and explained below;

The planets have been given measures (Kalas) of brilliance which are represented as follows:

1) Sun : 30

2) Moon: 16

3) Mars: 6

4) Mercury: 8

5) Jupiter: 10

6) Venus: 12

7) Saturn: 1

Now the above measures are used to calculate the number of a Rasi as follows:

Step 1: Add the Kalas(measure mentioned above) of the 9th Lord from Ascendant and 9th Lord from Moon.

Step 2: Divide the above sum by 12

Step 3: Note the Reminder

Step 4: Count the Number obtained in step (3) from the Moon Sign

The results are determined as under;

1) If this Sign (Rasi) is occupied by a benefic without there being a malefic presence it will make the native a millionaire.

2) If only malefic influence then the native will have wealth of a few thousands only.

3) If such malefic is in exaltation sign the native will be a millionaire.

Explanation: This as with other numerical slokas needs further scientific research. However the important point to note here is the brilliance of every planet and the relationship with effect on humans.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 26: Chandra Adhi Yoga

Sloka 26 Chadra Adhi Yoga is defined as below:

1) If benefics occupy the 6th, 7th and 8th houses from the moon

2) No malefics in these houses

The person is a king or equal to a king, gets happiness and luck in life. Is long Lived, Victorious in battles, Learned, Has all the pleasures of life, is blessed with houses, luxuries and vehicles. Is blessed with wife, friends and children.

Explanation:

This yoga is termed as Chandra Adhi Yoga and is also referred to in other classical texts such as Phaladeepika and Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.

This yoga covers the Moon Sign, the 2nd to Moon Sign and the 12th to Moon Sign (Adjacent signs to moon) with benefic influence and hence the good results.

- The planet in 6th house aspects the 12th house from Moon
- The planet in 8th house aspects the 2nd house from Moon
- The planet in 7th house aspects the Moon Sign

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 25: Signification, Creation, Gunas of Planets

This sloka describes the Significations, creation and Gunas(disposition) of the planets:

Significations:

1) Sun : Mahesh (God Shiva) and it represents the Soul and Father.

2) Moon: Bhavani, Shakti(Goddess Durga) and represents the Mother

Creation:

1) Mars: Has been created by Prithvi (Mother Earth)

2) Mercury: Has been created by Water(Jala)

3) Jupiter: Has been created by Fire (Agni)

4) Venus: Has been created by Vayu(Air)

5) Saturn: Has been created by Akasa(Ether)

The Gunas of the Planets are:

1) Satvika Planets: Jupiter, Venus, Mercury

2) Rajasika Planets: Mars

3) Tamasika Planets: Saturn

Moon and Sun as Lords of 6th & 8th House

- Even if the Moon and Sun are lords of 6th, 8th house still they are not considered as Marakas (Killer Planets). Though in such situation Sun and Moon may result in problems /malefic results but they are not Marakas (Killers).

Explanation:

The Human Character has all three gunas. To know the personality it is important to understand the position of planets in the horoscope their strenghts and influence.

The Gunas are explained here:

Rajasik: Denoted Action, Denotes ego and luxury, spending, enjoying through positive things.

Tamasik: Denotes deterioration, Non-Vegetarian food, Denotes acts which are considered low, pleasure by giving pain.

Satvik: Kind, Calm, Composed, Vegetarian, Learning.

Tamas is to be understood by its visible deterioration of physical body and mind. Lethargy or Alasya and inaction may give temporary pleasure but it simultaneously disintegrates the body. It is precursory to disease and decay. Eventually the body can not tolerate too long. To resist decay is again our nature. The viveka or intellect revolts saying ‘this can not go on’. And then the ego-self says ‘I must do something about it’.

This awakening of ego is the awakening of rajasik. The tamasik becomes the cause for triggering rajasik as darkness becomes the cause for lighting the lamp.

But rajasik is all action. It is like getting geared up and not knowing the direction to move. It may become recklessly unproductive or may even relapse back to tamasik. That would be disastrous.

But abandoning us to disaster and condemned existence is not in the divine scheme. It is constantly working on us to lift us up again and again. Hence the guidance and direction has to be provided to the soul.

The direction is derived from the knowledge of satvik. This knowledge is provided by the inner voice residing within the innermost center of our existence. It is the extension of the Divine itself ever guiding ever correcting and ever advising us to chose the right conduct.

So all the three gunas with their characteristic nature govern all our actions. It then boils down to which particular guna predominates.

How does one understands what kind of guna at any given time is having a greater influence on him?

If you are more prone to lethargy, inactiveness, diseases and negative thoughts etc it is because of dominance of tamasik. If the mind is running constantly after gains and profits of material nature, and generally unhappy about something or other, it is the rajasik that is riding. With a reasonably unperturbed disposition, having positive thoughts towards all and often finding happiness in thinking of the Divine and his ways one is said to be under the influence of the satvik.

Obviously no wise man would like to be dominated by rajasik or tamasik influences. Satvik is always to be craved for. People speak of eliminating rajasik and tamasik gunas as part of one’s sadhana. That is foolishness. Gunas can not be eliminated. As long as you are living, in this life or next, as long as one remains part of this creation, he can never break away from the shackles of the three gunas.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 24: Categorization of Houses

This sloka categorized and groups the houses

1) Kendra: The 1st(Ascendant)(Lagna) house, 4th, ;7th, 10th houses (bhavas) are termed as Kendras

2) Panphara: The 2nd houses from the Kendras i.e. 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th are termed as Panpharas

3) Apoklima: The next adjacent houses from Panphara i.e. 3rd, 6th,9th,12th are termed as Apoklima

4) Trikona: 9th and 5th House

5) Upchaya: 3rd, 6th, 10th, 11th House

6) Janma Rasi(Moon Sign): Sign where moon is placed

7) Lagna(Ascendant): Rising Sign at the time of birth is termed as Adi or first house.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 23: Auspicious Yoga

The yoga describes the combination for being a king of kings, wealthy, intelligent, famous and full of valour

1) If the malefics be debilitated

2) Benefics are in strength

3) Benefics occupy Kendra, Trikona houses

4) Lords of 10th, 9th, 4th houses are grouped together in 9th or 10th house

Explanation: Self explanatory, malefic planets are weak and posited in houses where they give good results. This results in heightened benefic aspects in the horoscope.

Uttara Kalamrita article published by AstroSutra

Uttara Kalamrita is a reference work on Vedic astrology or Jyotisa it is also termed as sidereal astrology, written by Kalidasa. However, it isn't known whether the Kalidasa who wrote this work is the Kalidasa who wrote Raghuvamsha and Abhijñānaśākuntalam. The manuscript is available in various libraries in India including the Government Oriental Manuscript Library in Chennai.

The text was first printed in the Telugu script. The reference to Andhra Bhasha , Urdu or Persian, Turushka, Sukkani, Rahu Kala, and other things show that he came after the sixteenth century. His use of the words Udyoga, got job, mud-cleaning,, Smarta , Nadi and Vinadi, Sarasa-sallapa (a peculiar Telugu expression), Tyajya Kala and other prove that he is South Indian. His opposition to the marriage with the daughter of the maternal uncle references to the usages in the South in the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

These and other factors convince us that the author belongs to a time after the 16th or the 17th century.

There is a Shankara Vijaya attributed to Madhava Vidyaranya. But the next clearly states that the author was condensing the work of Vyasachala (17th century) and that he was called Abhinava Kalidasa. Possibly the author of Uttara Kalamrita is the same one.

The Uttara Kalamrita contains a wealth of astrological principles which are derived from earlier works on astrology namely Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Brihat Jataka & Phaladeepika.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 22: Vipreet Raj Yoga

The following combinations are to be noted as Vipreet Raj Yoga and will result in the person becoming a king of kings and blessed with name, fame and wealth.

1) Lord of 8th occupying the 6th, 12th houses

2) Lord of 6th occupying the 8th, 12th houses

3) Lord of the 12th Occupying the 6th, 8th houses

If the above planets are connected with each other through relationships :

a) Interchange
b) Mutual Aspect
c) Lord of the Rasi aspecting a planet in its Rasi
d) Posited Together

And they do not have any such relation with other planets in the natal chart.

Explanation:

The lords of 6th, 8th and 12th are lords of malefic houses (Dushsthanas) their placement in bad places signifies a reverse yoga i.e. placement of maleficence in malefic houses.

e.g. placement of a malefic lord in 6th will result in no enemies and diseases

Point to be noted:

1) Their placement in their own houses e.g. 6th lord in 6th is not covered in Vipreet Raj Yoga. This kind of placement would actually enhance the significations of malefic houses and prove inauspicious.

2) Whether the relationships between these malefic lords will lead to auspiciousness is a point for research. Just placement in malefic houses definitely should give good results.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 21: Swadheen Vedha, Paradheen Vedha

The Sloka describes the various aspects and its results

1) Aspect on planets by friendly malefics is termed as Swadheen vedha (liberating)

2) Aspect on planets by Inimical malefics is termed as Paradheen vedha (Enslaving)

3) Aspect on planets by friendly benefics is termed as swadheen Vedha(liberating)

2) Aspect on planets by Inimical benefics is termed as Paradheen vedha (Enslaving)

- The results of benefics is good and felt at the beginning

- The results of malefics is bad and felt at the end.

- The natives luck and his longevity shoudl be judged by the above

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 20: Chhadaka, Vedhaka, Bandhaka, Pratibandhaka

This is a very important sloka for finding results that planets will give to the native.

Rule 1: By Placement from a House

1) Planet in the 2nd house from a house (bhava) is called Chhadaka for that house (bhava). Chhadaka would mean shadow or enhance or support.

2) Similarly Planet in the 3rd house is called Vedhaka (Negative term, Drill a hole, tear apart, create problems)

3) Similarly Planet in the 4th house is termed as Bandhaka (To imprison, Obstruct, Negative term)

4) Similarly Planet in the 8th house is termed as Pratibandhaka (More powerful than Bandhaka, Obstruct, Negative Term)

Rule 2: By Lordship of a house from a house (bhava)

1) Lords of 2nd and 7th from a house (bhava) are termed as Marakas(Death, Destruction, Negative term) for that house(bhava)

Rule 1: Point 4: The Planet in the 8th house from a house is an important one and shows the increase or decrease in the significations of that Bhava. The planet in the 8th house from a house has been given special significance.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 19: Chhadaka Graha

The Sloka is in two parts

Part I:

The following planets will be chhadakas(Defined later in explanation) for the second and twelveth signs from their

position:

1) Full Moon
2) Jupiter
3) Saturn
4) Ketu

If Jupiter is a lord of malefic houses(dushsthana) then it will be chhadaka for 12th house from itself.

If other planets viz. Full, Moon, Saturn, Ketu are lords of malefic houses then they will act as chhadakas for the

2nd house from itself only.

Part II:

Auspicious results accrue to the native if there is relationship between the lords of houses (bhavas) and the

significators of those houses.

The relationship can be through (As mentioned in one of the earlier slokas) :

1) Interchange
2) Mutual Aspect
3) Lord of the Rasi aspecting a planet in its Rasi
4) Posited Together

Explanation:

The Term chhadaka is a sanskrit term and it means shadowing. Thus a planet shadows the planets which are in 2nd and

12th houses (bhavas) from itself.

Relationship between the house lord and its significator would enhance the results of that house. E.g. 5th Lord and

natural significator Jupiter having connection will result in enhancing the significations of the 5th house.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 18: Loss of Bhava Significance

If the (Phala Karaka) and the (Bhava Karaka) of any Bhava as also the lords of
the Rasi and Navamsa occupied by the Lord of the Bhava and the Bhava itself be hostile, the effect of the Bhava is lost.

The sloka is an important one and describes the effect of planetary relationships on the results (good or bad) of a particular house (bhava)

The results of a bhava (house) are lost if the following combinations exist

1) If the Significator of a house and the Lord of the house are enemies

2) If the significator of a house/ the lord of house are enemies with the Dispositor of the Lord of the house

3) If the significator of a house/ the lord of house are enemies with the Navamsha Dispositor of the Lord of the house

4) If malefics occupy the Rasi of a significator planet, the house of which the significator planet is a significator suffers.

Explanation: The natural relationships between planets are at play here and if they are inimical to each other and related to a particular bhava the results of the bhava are lost.

Another important aspect, the significators are given importance in this bhava while in earlier slokas house lords were given importance. Malefic effect to the significators signs will result in loss to bhavas of which the planet is a significator

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV: Sloka 17: Rupa Bala

The following, viz., (1) the waning (1) the waning Moon (2) Mercury (3) Venus (4)Full Moon and Jupiter, become auspicious in the proportion of ¼, ½, ¾ and 1
res¬pectively.

Jupiter and Venus become fully favourable when in the house of a benefic
and in conjunction with the lord of the same. The following four groups, viz.
(1) waning Moon and Mercury when he is a malefic,
(2) the Sun
(3) Rahu and Mars and
(4) Ketu and

Saturn are , productive of evil in the same proportion already stated.

1) The Rupa Bala of planets is mentioned in this sloka (Benefic Proportion)

a) Moon without strength : 1/4 Rupa
b) Mercury: 1/3 Rupa
c) Venus: 3/4 Rupa
d) Full Moon , Jupiter: 1 Rupa

2) The Following planets signify malefic strength

a) Moon without strength & Mercury (in conjunction with Malefics): 1/4 Rupa
b) Sun: 1/3 Rupa
c) Rahu, Mars: 3/4 Rupa
d) Ketu, Saturn

3) Jupiter and Venus are auspicious in Rasis owned by benefic planets

Friday, August 14, 2009

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV : Sloka 16 : Benefic Malefic and Placement

1) Benefics (Jupiter and Venus) are strong in the following houses
Kendra, 5th, 9th, 2nd, 3rd, 11th, 6th house

2) Malefics will be auspicious if placed in the upchaya houses

3) Sun and Saturn are auspicious and give good results when in 9th house

4) Mercury is auspicious in the 8th house

5) Saturn is good in Exaltation, own house, or in Jupiter's Signs even if it occupies the lagna

6) Venus is good in 12th house except in Rasi or Amsa of Saturn.

Explanation:

The benefics are strong in Kendra and Trikona. Here in this sloka upchaya houses have beeen added to the list and 2nd

house being the house of wealth has been added for placement of benefics

Malefics are auspicious in upchaya house

Mercury has been termed as auspicious in 8th house. The reason for this could be the significators of mercury have a

close relationship with the house of unknown 8th house. The ability to see the unknown.

Venus being significator of luxuries indicates expenses on luxuries which signify materialistic growth.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV : Sloka 15 : Strength of Planets

In the following conditions the planet loses strength (Bala)
- In Infancy (0-6 degrees in sign)
- Old Age(25-30 degrees in sign)
- Eclipsed by Sun
- Lost in Planetary war
- Benefic planets aspect east during waxing moon period and vice versa
- Malefic planets aspect east during waning moon period and vice versa
- Jupiter is strong aspecting the West
- Saturn is strong when it is not in retrograde motion
- Saturn and Venus are strong even if they are eclipsed by sun
- Mars in strong even in inimical signs

Points to be noted

- The Ascendant denotes East
- Thus benefic planets get strength from 1st to sixth houses
- Thus malefic planets gain strength from from 8th to 12th houses
- Jupiter is strong in the ascendant

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV : Sloka 14 : 6th, 8th,12th Lords & Houses

Sloka 14: Special Yoga on 6th, 8th, 12th Lords & Houses

This yoga is an important one and actually mentions multiple principles.

First Principle

1) The Significations of The House (Bhava) whose Lord is posited in the 6th, 8th and 12th house are harmed.

2) The significations of the House (Bhava) where 6th, 8th, 12th Lords are posited are harmed.

3) The significations of the House(Bhava) where 6th, 8th, 12th Lords aspect are harmed.

Second Principle

4) Venus in 12th gives hapiness

5) Mercury in 8th gives hapiness

6) Jupiter in 6th gives hapiness

Third Principle

7) If the planes posited in 6th,8th,12th are in Friendly, Exaltation signs they give good results related to the houses they own.

8) If the Dispositors of planets posited in 6th,8th,12th are in Inimical signs, Debilitation, Astangata (Eclipsed by Sun), Lost in Planetary war the planets posited in these houses give good results.

Uttara Kalamrita: Section IV :Shloka 13 : Auspicious Yoga : Strength of the Bhava

The Bhava gets strengh and auspicious results related to the bhava accrue in case of the following combinations:

1) If a benfic planet occupies own sign, exaltation sign, friendly sign, MoolTrikona Sign, Vargottama Navamsha

2) If a malefic planet occupies a similar position then it also gives good results for the bhava of which it is the lord.

3) If the lord of the bhava, the Dispositor of the Lord, the Navamsa occupied by the lord of the bhava is strong the bhava concerned the results of the bhava are increased.

4) If the Lord of a bhava is placed in a sign with a friendly planet, or in the navamsha rasi of the posited planet is having a friendly planet the artha(wealth) related to the bhava will accrue.

Explanation: Here the connection between the strength of a bhava and its lord is explained. The stronger the bhava lord the stronger is the bhava.

Uttara Kalamrita: Section IV : Shloka 12 : InAuspicious Yoga

Destruction of the significations of a bhava (house) Similar to Shloka 10

While the Shloka 10 dealt with placement in 6,8,12th houses of the lords of a bhava the shloka 12 gives further combinations for destruction of the house significations.

The following combinations are mentioned as destroying the significations of a house, planet:

1) If a house, house lord, significator (karaka) planet are hemmed (in between) malefics

2) Conjunct with Malefics

3) Devoid of Strength

4) No benefic aspect / conjunction

5) 9,4,5,8,12 houses from them have malefics

6) House Navamsha, House Lord Navamsha, Significator Navamsha lords are also placed in Inimical Signs, Debilitation Signs, Astangata (eclipsed by sun), Lost in planetary war

Explanation: The above yoga takes into consideration all aspects of prediction the house, the house lord, the significator, the navamsha lords. Thus a holistic view of a house should be formed to arrive at precise results related to a signification. If from multiple sources the bhava is afflicted then the results will definitely happen if there are benefic aspects associations at various layers then the malefic results will be subdued.

Regarding placement of malefics in 9,4,5,8,12 houses the malefics are only good in 3rd, 6th and 11th houses (upchaya sthana) even 10th house being an upchaya sthana is not bad for malefic placement.

Uttara Kalamrita: Section IV : Shloka 11 : Auspicious Yoga

When the Lord of a bhava is placed in the following placements it brings prosperity to the native in a short span of time.

1) When the lord of a bhava is posited in Trikona, Kendra, 3rd, 11th houses.

2) It is in Exaltation, Own Rasi, Own Navamsha, Friendly Sign

3) It is between Strong Benefics

4) The Dispositors of such lords (The lords of Trikona, Kendra, 3rd, 11th
houses) are also in their exaltation or associated / aspected by benefics.

Explanation: The Yoga is self explanatory the upchaya, Kendra and Kona sthana lords being prosperity to the native when well placed. The Dispositors good position and placement is also essential to add strength to the Yoga.

Uttara Kalamrita: Section IV : Shloka 10 : Inauspicious Yoga

If the lord of a house is placed in the following it results in destruction of the significations of that bhava (house)

1) Placement in 6th, 8th, 12th house

2) Debilitation Sign, Inimical Sign

3) Astangata (Eclipsed by Sun)

4) No benefic aspects or conjunction with benefic planets

5) Aspected by Enemies or placed with them

6) Neechamsha (Debilitation Amsha) or shatruamsha (Inimical Amsha)

7) Defeated in Planetary war

The above leads to the planet having feeble energy and thus destruction of the significations of houses owned by the planet.

Explanation: The above is self explanatory if the lord of a house or bhava is weak it would result in destruction of significations of that planet as well as the significations of houses of which it is the lord.

Uttara Kalamrita Section IV : Shloka 9: Special Auspicious Yoga on Jupiter, Rahu, Venus, Ketu

The Below yoga mentions such combinations which are against the basic principles of placement and lordship. Hence we suggest that thorough research needs to be done on these yoga. Authors invite the viewers at Astrosutra to give comments and horoscopes for reference where such yogas are present and the effect these yogas had during the relevant dasa bhuktis of Jupiter, Venus, Rahu and Ketu.

The following combinations will give good yoga

Jupiter

1) Jupiter Owning the 3rd and 12th houses
2) Jupiter Owning the 8th House
3) Jupiter Posited in 8th House

Explanation: Seems that Jupiter being the most benefic planet its placement and lordship of bad houses 3rd, 8th, 12th would tend to reduce the beneficance but not destroy it completely.

Note: Makara Lagna Jupiter Owns houses 12 (saggitarius Rasi) and 3rd (Pisces) Jupiter is neutral to saturn. This requires more research as this shloka would mean that Jupiter doesnt give bad results even if it is placed in malefic houses and owns the malefic houses.

Venus

1) Venus Placed in 6th House

Note: Further Research required being 12th from 7th and placement of venus in a dushsthana (malefic house) should give negative results related to partner / marriage. However placement in 6th house would result in venus aspecting the 12th house of expenditure and the person will have the ability to spend on luxuries however placement in 6th house of loans may indicate expenditure after taking loans.

Rahu

1) Placed in 4th, 7th, 10th, 9th and 11th

Explanation: Rahu's Placement in Kendra Sthanas (4,7,10) gives it the potential to give Raja Yoga also its placement in 9th House Trikona. 5th being the house of Sun and significator for progeny is not included in this list as it would also involve malefic effects.

Ketu

1) Ketu Placed in 3rd House

Explanation: Third house has been considered the best placement for ketu as being kujavata (Like Mars) it gives strength to the native in this house. This also results in Rahu occupying the 9th house Trikona Sthana and becoming benefic.

Note: Since 3rd is 8th from 8th house of longevity ketu’s placement in 3rd house would result in malefic results in case of longevity. This needs more research.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 8 : Moon Rajyoga

If Moon is placed as follows the native will have all luxuries, will have knowledge, will have all virtues, Loved by people, and charitable.

1) Away from Sun
2) Exaltation Sign( Taurus), Own Sign( Cancer) Friends Sign
3) In houses 9th, 4th, 7th, 10th
4) Aspected by or Conjunct with Jupiter or Venus

Placement of Mars and Saturn

1) Have Strength (Similar to one above for Moon)
2) Have benefic aspect
3) Occupy the 2nd, 10th Houses from Lagna

Explanation Moon in Kendra Sthana (4,7,10) and Trikona (9th) in benefic aspect and having strength will give the native a Raja Yoga.

Position of Mars and Saturn with strength and benefic aspect in 2nd house (Dhana) and 10th House (Karma) will give the native the energy to do good karma.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 7: Auspicious Yoga

This yoga describes the effects of the Lagna Lord (Ascendant Lord) occupying the First, Middle or Last Decante:

1) Lord of Lagna occupying the First Decante the person will be a judge
2) Lord of Lagna occupying the Second Decante the person will be a chief
3) Lord of the Lagna occupying the Third Decante the person will be the chief of a village

Placement of Lagna Lord in Lagnesh

1) If the Lagnesh is placed in Lagna is aspected or placed with Venus, Jupiter, Mercury
2) It is in Soumya Vargas
3) It is in exaltation and has benefic aspects

The Above three combinations will make the person a king of kings.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 6: InAuspicious Yoga

The bhavas get afflicted and the native gets ill effects for karakas (significators) of that bhava in case of following conditions (Based on Placement of Bhava Lord):

If the Lord of the Bhava
1) Occupies the 8th House
2) Is astangata (eclipsed by the sun)
3) Is in Debilitation Sign
4) Is In Inimical Sign
5) Is Not aspected by benefics
6) Is Not conjunct with benefics

In case of the above combinations even if the Bhava has benefics posited in it still the good effects of that bhava are nullified.

Note: The above yoga states that the strength and results of a bhava should be judged primarily by the Lord thus benefic planet placement in a bhava does not completely counter the ill effects of the bad placement of the bhava lord.

Important Deduction: Bhava Lord is more important than bhava

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 5(a): Auspicious Yoga

The following combinations cause Auspicious yoga:

1) Chandra Lagna Lord (Lord of the Rasi where moon is placed), Lagna Navamsha Lord, Lagnesh (Ascendant Lord) - Promotion

2) Lords of 9th House and 10th House from Lagna - Hapiness from Vehicles

3) 5,3,4,7 House Lords - Hapiness from Children

4) 2nd Lord and 11th Lord - Material Gains

The relationships should be: Conjunction, Aspect, Interchange
The planets should be in : Own Sign, Friendly Sign, Exaltation Sign.

Note: Though the 3rd Lord is considered malefic, but seems here the author is referring to 3rd as 11th from 5th and thus hapiness from children. This is a point for further research and discussion.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 5: Auspicious Yoga

The Following combinations cause Raj Yoga (Auspicious Yoga)

1) 9th Lord in 9th House and 10th Lord in 10th House
2) 9th Lord in 10th and 10th Lord in 9th House
3) 9th Lord in 10th Lords Rasi and Vice Versa
4) 9th Lord and 10th Lord Aspecting each other

If the 9th and 10th Lords are in 1,4,7, 5 Houses they cause Raj Yoga and result in hapiness and wealth to the native.

Note: The above is self explanatory, 1,4,7 being kendra sthanas and 5th house being the other Trikona sthana (apart from 9th) are the second best positions for 9th and 10th lords.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 4: Auspicious Yoga Strength

This Sloka defines the Intensity of the result (Position and stature of a person) of the Yoga based on 9th,10th Lordship from Lagna, 9th House and 10th House.
1) The Lords of the 9th and 10th House from Lagna (Highest Level)
2) The Lords of the 9th and 10th House from 9th House (Medium Level)
3) The Lords of 9th and 10th House from 10th House (Low Level)

The above should be related to each other as follows:
a) Interchange
b) Mutual Aspect
c) Conjunction
d) Mutual Kendra Position from each other
e) Conjunction with the Dispositor of Lagnesh (Rasi lord of the sign where Lagnesh / ascendant lord is placed)

The above yoga specifically mentions about the stature of a person in society.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 3(a): RajYoga (Auspicious Yoga)

The Yoga describes the good effects of relationship between 9th and 10th Lords

1) 9th Lord in 9th house and 10th Lord in 10th house (own houses)
2) 9th Lord in 10th House, 10th Lord in 9th House (Interchange)
3) 9th Lord and 10th Lord in either the 9th house or 10th house together
4) 9th Lord and 10th Lord Aspecting each other
5) If the 9th, 10th Lords are in conjunction with 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th house lords
6) If 9th , 10th Lords occupy 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th Houses

The above yogas bring wealth and hapiness to the native provided the 9th Lord or 10th Lord are not the lords of 8th or 11th House as well.

Here four type of relationship mentioned elsewhere in classical texts are important. For predictions the strength of the planets, houses and the strength of the relationship is important.

The following are listed in the decreasing order of strength, hence Interchange is the strongest yoga.

1) Interchange
2) Mutual Aspect
3) Lord of the Rasi aspecting a planet in its Rasi
4) Posited Together

Explanation: The 10th being the strongest kendra and 9th being the strongest trikona, the relationship of these two lords is auspicious in these houses.

Houses 1,4,7 being Kendra Houes are considered good for placement of 9th, 10th Lord, and bring auspicious results.
House 5 being the other Trikona house is also a good placement for 9th /10th Lord.

8th and 11th houses being inauspicious houses will result in nullification of the good results if the 9th and 10th lords are also lords of these inauspicious houses.

Impact:
1) Aries Lagna: 9th Lord: Jupiter, 10th Lord Saturn (Also 11th Lord hence ruled out)
2) Taurus Lagna: 9th Lord and 10th Lord Saturn
3) Gemini Lagna: 9th Lord: Saturn(also 8th lord hence ruled out), 10th Lord: Jupiter
4) Cancer Lagna: 9th Lord: Jupiter, 10th Lord: Mars
5) Leo Lagna: 9th Lord: Mars, 10th Lord: Venus
6) Virgo Lagna: 9th Lord: Venus, 10th Lord: Mercury
7) Libra: 9th Lord: Mercury, 10th Lord: Moon
8) Scorpio:9th Lord: Moon, 10th Lord: Sun
9) Saggitarius:9th Lord: Sun, 10th Lord: Mercury
10) Capricorn: 9th Lord: Mercury, 10th Lord: Venus
11) Aquarius:9th Lord: venus, 10th Lord: Mars
12) Pisces: 9th Lord: Mars, 10th Lord: Jupiter

Places where Jupiter, Mars, Venus, Mercury are involved in Yoga: 4

Places where Sun and Moon involved in Yoga: 2

Places where Saturn involved in Yoga : 2

Note: This indicates Saturn is only in the above auspicious yogas for all lagnas only once for Taurus Lagna (Both 9th and 10th Lord)

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 2: InAuspicioius Yoga

Planets lose strength (hence become incapable of giving good results) in the following conditions:

By Placement & Aspect
1) Debilitation Sign
2) Inimical Sign
3) Lost in Griha Yudha
4) Placed between Malefics (Paap Kartari)
5) Placed with Retrograde Planet(s)
6) Placed with Rahu
7) Placed in Bhava Sandhi (House Cusp)
8) Placement with (near) Sun (Astangata)
9) Aspected by Malefics

The Following Conditions will result in the auspiciousness of the Sloka 1 being negated:

If Lords of 6th, 8th and 12th Houses are placed with Lords of Kendra and Trikona Houses, they destroy the good effects of the Kendra / Trikona Lords (RajYog Bhang)

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 1: Planets in Various Houses and Effects
